Are you a fan of tall boots? I had a pair of taupe Naturalizer knee-high boots from 2012 that I finally parted with due to a faulty zipper, but I loved those boots. I wore them with skinny jeans (I know, I know, it’s all about the wide legs these days), skirts and dresses–the fit was perfect and they kept my legs warm and put the “dress” in dress casual. It’s nice to see knee-high boots back for winter 2024-2025! I’ve rounded up ten comfortable tall boots with a good fit and support.

Sofft Sharnell II Waterproof

“Love! These are so great! It is tough to find a boot to fit my slim calves.” – Zappos customer Jo

Aren’t these beauties? If your calf circumference is under 15″, the Sofft Sharnell II is a great boot to try. Stain-resistant, waterproof Italian leathers make up the upper and shaft keeping your feet dry while a cushioned footbed and arch provide all-day comfort.

Sizes: 6-11 • Width: M • Calf circumference: 13″ adjusting to 15″: • Price: $186-249 from Zappos, Amazon (find a deal on eBay)

Aerosoles Binocular Shearling

Sometimes a low wedge feels better on aching feet than a typical flat or block heel and the Aerosoles Binocular is an affordable option! The faux suede upper has a little stretch to it and the shearling trim is just around the top of the boot.

Sizes: 5-12 • Width: M & W • Calf circumference: 16″ • Price: $103-149 from Aerosoles, Amazon & Zappos

Dingo Vagabond

“Super cute. Beautiful leather, great style to wear with dresses, jeans and skirts. Classic and will last for years! I wear 7, ordered a 7 1/2 to allow for orthotics. Slightly narrow but fit great if I wear thinner socks. Very happy!!!” – Nordstrom customer

Are the beautiful Frye Campus boots out of your budget? Mine too. The Dingo Vagabond is high quality dupe for less than half the price of the Fryes. Customer reviews are mostly positive for good fit and feel (keep in mind this is a pull-on style–no zipper).

Sizes: 6-11 • Width: M • Calf circumference: 12″ • Price: $169.95 from Dingo 1969, Nordstrom, Amazon, Zappos

Barking Dog Shoes reviews and recommends the best footwear for people with various foot issues (as well as for women with average feet for whom comfort is a high priority).
Abeo Traverse Tall

What sets this lovely tall boot apart is Abeo’s BIOsystem® orthotic footbed, designed to support your arches, cushion your heels, and keep your body aligned. The deep heel cup absorbs shock, while the roomy toe box takes pressure off the bunions. Whether you deal with plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, or just tired feet, these boots are built to help relieve pain and fatigue while staying stylish.

Sizes: 5-11 • Width: M • Footbed style: regular support & metatarsal support • Price: $279.95 from Nordstrom, Amazon & The Walking Company

Miz Mooz Lisbon: regular and wide calf available

“Oh my goodness, this boot is amazing! Love the soft look and spacious toe box. Perfect for dresses and skirts. Wore it all day right out of the box.” Miz Mooz customer, Carmelita

It’s all in the details. Portuguese-made Miz Mooz Lisbon kicks the regular riding boot up a notch in the Lisbon boot with its slightly slouched design with ruching and supple leather upper in rich hues. A padded footbed and low one-inch heel add to its all-day comfort.

Sizes: 6-11 • Width: M • Calf Circumference: regular – 15″ & wide – 16″ • Price: $249.95 from Miz Mooz, Nordstrom & Amazon (regular calf only)

Clarks Adalynn Hope

Real leather boots are typically priced over $150 but I found a beautiful pair for under $140! The Clarks Adalynn Hope tall boot features a densely padded footbed with extra cushioning at the heel and ball of foot, a round toe and a rubber lug sole for stability.

Sizes: 5-12 • Width: M & W (this is foot width, not calf width) • Calf circumference: 14 1/8″ • Price: $129-139.99 from Clarks & Amazon

Nordstrom Hanna

If you can handle a 2.5″ heel, this lovely leather tall boot designed by Nordstrom might be in your future, especially when you see the price. The Hanna boot is a crowd-pleaser with a 4.5 out of 5 star average for fit, feel and style.

Sizes: 5-12 • Width: M • Calf circumference: regular – 14″ & wide – 16″ • Price: $119.99 from Nordstrom

At last, a recurring trend we achy-footed gals can get behind: the Chelsea boot.  Credited to Queen Victoria’s shoemaker, the style is sturdy, close-fitting around the ankle, with elastic goring on the sides and a heel tab in the back. Worn as riding or “paddock” boots in the 1800s, the style gained popularity among the equestrian community, worn by men and women alike. In the 1950s, a group of young artists, film directors and socialites from the Chelsea area of west London, incorporated the boot into their “look.” The Chelsea boot soon became an icon of the Mod subculture of London making its way onto the feet of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

We’ve rounded up 7 comfortable chelsea boots for a variety of foot problems. Take a look!

1. Eco Modtray Chelsea Boot

Our first comfortable chelsea boot is podiatrist-recommended. Dr. Paul Macaulay, a UK-trained podiatrist practicing in Singapore speaks highly of the Ecco Modtray chelsea boot in this video.

“If you’re suffering with plantar fasciitis or achilles tendonitis, then considering your heel height is going to be really important. We’re going to be looking for a heel height of 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters,” (Roughly a half inch to one inch) – Dr. Paul’s advice

The Ecco Modtray Chelsea features a rounded toe, soft full-grain leathers, removable insole and 1.5″ lug sole with 3/4″ platform. The other boot Dr. Paul references in the video is the Ecco Nouvelle style available through Amazon.

Sizes: Euro 35-42 (4-11) • Width: M • Price: $97-225 from Ecco US, Zappos & Amazon

Barking Dog Shoes reviews and recommends the best footwear for people with various foot issues (as well as for women with average feet for whom comfort is a high priority).

2. Ariat Fatbaby Twin Gore Chelsea

Give the toes some room! The Ariat Fatbaby Chelsea boot features a wide, rounded toe box–perfect for bunioned feet. Add Ariat’s 4LR™ technology and you’ve got yourself a lightweight yet supportive chelsea boot that’s on trend for concert-going, market-shopping, classroom-teaching and yes, barn chores too. We love all the fun color and pattern combos available (but they do come in neutrals too).

Sizes: 5/5-12 • Widths: M & W (certain sizes and colors) • Price: $87.99-119 from Ariat, Zappos & Amazon

comfortable chelsea boots rieker
3. Rieker Amalia 65 Chelsea boot

I gasped when I saw the colors these come in. Dramatic? Perhaps. But wait until YOU see the bottle green ones. Keep the tootsies toasty this winter in the Rieker Amalia 65 with its faux suede upper and warm faux fur lining. A padded footbed (non-removable) cushions the soles while a shock-absorbing lug sole provides good traction.

Sizes: Euro 36-42 (5.5-10.5) • Width: M • Price: $120-135 from Rieker US, Zappos, Nordstrom & Comfort One Shoes

4. Stegmann Lieben

Oh my gosh, these booties are perfect. I’ve been on the search for a dressier, but comfy, bootie for over a year. The toe box is just wide enough, there’s just enough arch support, and the bootie itself is so lightweight I hardly feel them. – Stegmann customer

More of a chelsea shoe, the Stegmann Lieben is for feet that crave Birkenstock-type footbeds (cork and latex that conforms to the foot shape over time). The footbed is also removable and may accommodate an orthotic. The goring hits below the ankle bone so no worries about it rubbing.

Anatomy of the Stegmann Lieben

Sizes: 6-12 • Width: M • Price: $164 from Stegmann USA (find a deal on eBay)

comfortable chelsea boots frankie4 liberty
5. Frankie4 Liberty

“These may be the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned! The cushioned support is amazing and feels so good on my arches. I work in retail and I’m able to stand in these for hours with minimal back pain. They look great with my bootcut and wide leg jeans, as well as skirts and dresses. True to size.”- Elizabeth, Frankie4 customer

Sole Hero® Footbed in the Frankie4 Liberty Chelsea

Can a Chelsea boot be both sleek and supportive at the same time? Minimalistic with maximum foot support? Elegant yet durable? Yes, yes and yes. Welcome the podiatrist-designed Frankie4 Liberty boot with a Sole Hero® Footbed (layered footbed with heel, arch and forefoot support). Need more room in the toe box? Take out the full length footbed and insert the half length insert included in the Sole Saver Pack®! Find out more about the Frankie4 brand in my video review here .

Sizes: 6-13 • Width: M • Price: $278 from Frankie4 & Nordstrom

Comfortable Chelsea Boots
6. Lems Chelsea Boot

Native to Boulder, Colorado, Lems specializes in zero-drop, foot-shaped shoes and boots. Read through the positive reviews from customers with diabetes, Morton’s neuroma, bunions, wide feet…they love their new Lems wide toe box chelsea boots. If you’re not into the barefoot feel and need more arch support, just add your favorite to the Lems Chelsea boot and voila! you’re good to go. If you’re not quite a barefoot footwear girlie, add a pair of Bridge soles for extra support.

Sizes: 6-12 • Width: one width in Lems WIDEST Natural-Shape Fit • Price: $165 from Lems Shoes

7. Duckfeet Roskilde Chelsea Boot

Duckfeet footwear is handcrafted in Europe utilizing responsibly manufactured terracare® leather. A foot-shaped toe box accommodates a wider and higher forefoot due to genetics, bunions, hammertoes (hence the name “Duckfeet”).

“Duckfeet have a neutral leather footbed without any inherent arch support. Because it’s leather, the footbed will form to the wearer’s footprint over time. If support is desired, the footbed is great for accommodating most insoles as there is no built in support to compete with an insert/insole.” Duckfeet website

You can add a Duckfeet cork or wool insole to the Roskilde boot for a little more support or warmth.

Sizes: Mens and Womens Euro 35-48 (5-14) • Width: one width that fits medium to wide feet • Price: $268 from Duckfeet USA. Use code BARKINGDOG for 10% off your purchase.

What to wear when the forecast is calling for more gray, rain, cold, and you’re sick of wearing your snow boots? How about this cute boot by Blondo– a Canadian brand known for their waterproof but yet stylish footwear. I’ve wanted to try the Blondo brand for a while now, but this boot in particular caught my eye because of its gray on gray monochrome look that’s so in right now. I thought it would go with everything that I own from jeans to pants to skirts.

The Blondo Prestley is made of lovely leather that’s very soft to the touch. The back is made of a textile that matches the front to keep the monochrome look, but it has some stretch to it! This is beneficial if you have a larger calf and you hate boots that constrict the lower part of your leg.

Barking Dog Shoes reviews and recommends the best footwear for people with various foot issues (as well as for women with average feet for whom comfort is a high priority).

The toe area is definitely rounded. If you are into the pointy toe boot look, these are not for you. But if you have compromised joints, or you have bunions or hammer toes, you’ll probably find these pretty comfortable. I sure do, and I have all of that and more due to rheumatoid arthritis.

I find that the heel area is also a bit generous. That’s why I wear my socks with these just to get a more secure fit. The Blondo Prestly has a cushioned footed but it’s not removable. Arch support is minimal to moderate. I would say on a scale of one to 10, with one being like a Steve Madden ballet flat and 10 being Birkenstock, these are about a five.

For those of you with hallux rigidus or hallux limitus, you should know that the forefoot sits on a 3/4″ platform of TPR (thermoplastic rubber)–it’s sturdy and thick, not bending too much.

Blondo Prestly

I find that the Blondo Prestly runs pretty true to size, if not just a little bit big. I tend to wear a size 10 medium and that’s what I ordered in these. I don’t plan on returning them for anything smaller because I want to wear them with socks.

Find the Blondo Prestly in 5 colors, sizes 6-11 for $79-149 from Zappos, Amazon, and Nordstrom.

The Merrell Moab 3 Mid Waterproof hiking boot is my missing puzzle piece for winter footwear. I have snow boots (The North Face Shellista), muck boots (Bogs), and a lovely pair of L.L. Bean hiking boots that are sturdy but too stiff around the ankle. I needed a pair of lightweight yet warm and supportive boots with excellent traction for the nature path I regularly take. While you can tell I love my new Merrell Moab boots in my video review, I asked my Facebook followers for their feedback. Here’s what they had to say (plus check out a summarized list of ALL their favorite hiking boots):

Merrell Moab 3 Mid Waterproof

“Love them! I bought them a few months ago. I’ve worn them to work, local walks and snowy walks in NH and VT woods. Super comfortable to wear right out of the box. Plenty of room in the toe box to not put pressure on my ball of my foot since I have hallux rigidus.” Facebook follower Katie

“Appreciate the stability they provide my foot, and also from a traction standpoint they’re great on ice/muck/rocky trails etc.” Facebook follower Kristi

“I have them in a low sneaker type version. They are in my top five for trail walking. My office is in the redwoods and I love the Merrell Moab for trekking across campus on the uneven woodsy trails. I have really bad knees and these work well for me.” Facebook follower Kelly

If there’s one caveat to heed while considering the Merrell Moab, it’s the sizing. Some reviews mention that it runs a little short. I considered ordering up a half size from my regular 10 (yes, Merrell carries a 10.5), but decided to keep them because I didn’t want them too roomy when I wear thinner socks come spring. However, if you plan to wear them with orthotics, I do advise ordering up a whole or half size.

Sizes: 5-12 • Widths: M & W • Price: $120-170 from Merrell, Zappos & Amazon

As the colder months roll in, I’ve come to realize how essential it is to have a pair of winter slip-on booties that I can put on quickly while standing. I don’t want to sit on the floor or a bench and fuss with laces and buckles–a challenge for my arthritic fingers. Plus, a cozy pair of pull-on booties that provide enough space for swollen feet, allowing me to move without any painful pressure? Sounds heavenly.

With the right pair of winter slip-on booties, I can quickly head out for walks with my dog or make those last-minute trips to the store without worrying about discomfort or struggling to get my boots on. See my top picks for cozy, good-fitting slip-on boots for winter:

The North Face Thermoball Traction Bootie

I love Victoria’s Zappos review of TNF Thermoball bootie: “This is basically a snow slipper, a warm puffy little thing with enough of a sole and a bit of traction to get you through the conditions just outside your house, or your tent if you are winter camping.” Ok, there you have it, a snow slipper. There is no arch support, but you can add your own. Available in sizes 5-11 for $49-69 from Zappos and Amazon.

Dr. Scholl’s Time Off Yo booties

This is Dr. Scholl’s winter version of their popular Time Off sneaker. With a 2″ sport sole with 1 1/3″ platform, the Time Off Yo boot is as cute as it is functional. You’ll also find moderate arch support, dense cushioning and soft microfiber upper with faux shearling trim. Available in sizes 6-10, medium and wide widths for $39-80 from Dr. Scholl’s Shoes and Zappos.

Easy Spirit Trippin Cozy

These affordable slip-on booties by Easy Spirit have garnered stellar reviews for fit and feel. A happy Easy Spirit customers says this about her Trippin Cozy booties: “Hard time finding comfy books because of the arthritis in my feet. With these my feet just slip right in and sigh. Highly highly recommend!” Available in sizes 5-12, narrow to extra wide widths for $27-85 from Easy Spirit and Amazon.

8 Women's Winter Slip-On Booties for Arthritic Feet (and Hands)
8 Women’s Winter Slip-On Booties for Arthritic Feet (and Hands)

If you’ve experienced the pain-relieving comfort and support of Oofos sandals, you’ll want to take a look at the new Oomega Londoner boot with the same OOfoam™ Technology as the sandals. Reviews are coming in overwhelmingly positive. Find a pair in sizes 5-11 for $199.95 from Oofos.

Fitflop GEN-FF Padded Soft-Leather Booties

These pillowy luxury leather booties feature Fitflop’s famous Microwobbleboard midsole–a triple-density midsole that follows the three footstep stages (firm heel/soft middle/medium at toes). Available in sizes 5-11 for $114 from Fitflop.com.

Earth Fleet

Although not quite a slip-on bootie, the Earth Fleet looks too comfortable to leave off the list. A wide square toe allows for thicker socks and a cork outsole provides good shock-absorption. Available in sizes 5-12 for $58-129 from Earth Shoes and Amazon.

Kizik Juno Mid boot

One of the original “hands-free” shoes, Kizik is at it again with the Juno Mid slip-on boot. Slip on these warm insulated boots with moderate arch support and rugged traction–hands free! Word has it they run a little snug, so order up. Available in sizes 6-11 for $149 from Kizik.

Chaco Ramble Rugged

I love my Chaco Ramble Puffs, but it looks like they’re phasing out to make room for the newest addition of the Ramble collection. The Chaco Ramble Rugged features a thick water-resistant canvas upper with the same warm foot-soothing fleece lining and supportive Chaco insole (which isn’t removable, so order up if you plan to wear with orthotics). Available in whole sizes 5-12 for $59-85 from Chacos.com.

Growing up in Indianapolis in the seventies, we didn’t just get snow, we got blizzards–a few famous ones at that.  My best memories include waiting to hear our district mentioned in the long list of school cancellations, then heading out to sled all day, returning at dusk to mom’s hot cocoa. The grand fun of the day overshadowed the snow boots fiasco…thankfully. Those ridiculous over-the-shoe rubber boots with impossible buckles only impeded my carefree spirit and did little to protect my feet from cold and near-frostbite. Snow boots have come a long way baby, and we’re here to share our favorites. We’ve found eight stylish and comfortable winter boots sure to keep your toes warm, dry and comfortable.

Xero Alpine minimalist snow boots

I ordered my normal size as suggested, removed the insole that came with it and added my own orthotic and the fit was perfect. Easy to lace up with lots of room for my toes. And they don’t bother the neuroma I have in one of my feet. Nancy, Xero customer

If you’re a fan of minimalist “barefoot” footwear, you’ll love the Xero Alpine boot. Featuring a wide foot-shaped toe box, zero drop (non-elevated) sole, and 200g insulation rated to rated to -25°/-32°C.

Check out all the specs at XeroShoes.com. Find in whole and half sizes 5-12 for $159.99 from XeroShoes.com and Amazon.

Sorel Kinetic Impact Puffy Boot

I love Sorel not just for their styling. The removable insole is a great help to me as I am a 9N and the 9M works well with my purchased orthotic. Very comfortable and so stylish! -Zappos customer

I don’t know about you, but as I age I want a easy-to-slip-on snow boot without all the fuss of lacing. Plus, the Sorel Kinetic Impact Puffy boot just looks sweet! What are customers saying about this waterproof bootie with 300g insulation?

The Sorel Kinetic Impact Puffy waterproof boot is available in sizes 5-12 for $160 from Sorel, Amazon, Zappos and Nordstrom.

Merrell Antora 3 Thermo Mid Zip Waterproof

“The treads are amazing and I had no trouble with my winter walking. I feel quite secure when I’m walking on the snow. They are sooo comfortable, I feel like I’m wearing runners. I usually wear ladies’ size 9 but ordered 9 1/2 to accommodate my orthotics.” Merrell customer

Do you like to hike in the winter? I sure do! Nature does a wonder for my mindset. But finding the right boot isn’t so easy. But the Merrell Antora 3 gets high marks for comfort, warmth, support and traction! Order up a half size for best fit. Available in sizes 5-11 for $139-160 from Merrell, Amazon, and Zappos.

Bogs Whiteout Faded

“I bought these for an engagement trip to Alaska. After doing my research, and asking a few Alaskans themselves, I found these and am so glad I did! I paired them with wool socks and my feet stayed warm and dry no matter what conditions I threw at them. The night we got engaged, we went Aurora spotting on a mountaintop outside Fairbanks and didn’t get home until 4am. When we got back into town, the temperature in Fairbanks was -29! The whole time, these boots kept my feet happy. The traction was also fantastic and kept me upright even in the slippery snow and ice. They were the best purchase of this trip!”

We love Bogs customer Katelyn’s review of their popular Whiteout boot. Find the Bogs Whiteout boot in sizes 6-12 for $115-160 from BogsFootwear.com, Zappos and Amazon.

Propet Lumi Lace

I’m particular about fit and these are great. I have bunions & am fussy about boots that don’t pinch across my forefoot and/or will stretch into shape eventually. Plus I wear orthotic inserts and they need to accommodate them. -Zappos customer

Just because you have big or extra-wide feet or both doesn’t mean you have to wear stodgy snow boots. Look at these cuties by Propet! The Lumi Lace makes our list of best snow boots because it comes in sizes up to 12 and is available in medium, wide and extra-wide widths–how wonderful.

Find the Propet Lumi Lace in sizes 6-12, medium to extra-wide widths for $109.95 from Zappos, Propet Amazon, and Walking Co.

Orthofeet Alps

This one’s a winner for hard-to-fit feet. The waterproof Orthofeet Alps comes with an orthotic-quality insole but is removable should you want to add your own. A wide and high toe box accommodates bunions and hammertoes. Side zippers make for easy on and off. Available in whole and half sizes 5-12, medium to extra-wide widths for $119.95 from Orthofeet.com, Zappos and Amazon.

Columbia Ice Maiden II

There’s a reason Columbia brings back the lightweight Ice Maiden snow boot year after year–it does what it says it’ll do: keep your feet toasty warm, dry and cushioned. The fit is true and the price is right. We love that it comes in half sizes up to Find the Columbia Ice Maiden II whole and half sizes 5 to 12, medium and wide widths. Available for $79.90 from Zappos, Columbia.com, and Amazon.

Made for trudging through deep snow at below -40 degrees Fahrenheit, the Arctic II by Muck Boot features a 5mm neoprene fleece-lined upper to keep feet warm and dry. Available in sizes 5-11 for $75-150 from Muck Boot Company and Amazon,.

Find the Blondo Prestly in 5 colors, sizes 6-11 for $79-149 from ZapposAmazon, and Nordstrom.

during the fall the local Aldi store had short rubber boots. my difficult feet immediately agreed, that these were going to be my favorites for winter. First pair in my size 9 was black. The next week they also had a faint salmon tone and off-white. I got the salmon. Have worn them most every day out in the woods with the dog. Very comfy and sturdy around the lower leg. I think I paid 20 bucks a pair.

Ingrid, that’s awesome. I’m a huge fan of Aldi, but never thought to try their boots!
