Hi, I’m Kirsten with BarkingDogShoes.com, where we review the most comfortable shoes for women. This is the Chaco Ramble Puff. Is it a slipper? Is it a shoe? That’s up to you!

The Chaco Ramble Puff is made from this really cool nylon ripstop. It’s quilted, so it looks like your favorite puffer jacket. It has a nice wide toe box which accommodates bunions, hammertoes, and other painful forefoot conditions.

On the inside there’s soft cozy fleece lining–even on the footbed! It isn’t so thick that your foot is going to overheat in these. feel like it’s just the right amount to keep your feet cozy without feeling overly toasty.

If you’ve worn Chaco sandals you know the trademarked Luvseat footbed–there’s contoured support; not only for your arches, but your heel too.

The footbed is actually attached to the midsole–so it’s not removable. It’s made of durable polyurethane (covered in soft fleece). It’s not like memory foam where it packs down after a while.
The polyurethane footbed provides firm durability with a little bit of cushion.

One of the best things about the Chaco Ramble Puff is you’re not confined to wearing them in the house. They have a three millimeter lug sole which allows you to wear these not only to the mailbox, but on shorter walks around your neighborhood (the nylon ripstop upper is water resistant). I also love how lightweight this slipper bootie is!

Kirsten, Max and the Chaco Ramble Puff

There’s an instep strap that you can buckle and adjust for a snug fit. Word of caution: the Ramble Puff runs small. You should probably order up a half size if you plan to wear them with socks.

The Chaco Ramble Puff is available in whole and half sizes 5-11 for $45-85 from Chacos.com, Amazon, and Zappos.

Whether you wear them with your robe in the morning, as a respite for tired feet in the evening, or all day as you work from home, chances are a pair of comfortable slippers is part of your footwear collection.  As with any other shoes that see daily wear, it’s worth finding a pair that’s cozy, supportive and durable. See our top 9 picks based on our experience and customer reviews. Update 12/2024: my new personal favorite for my wonky arthritic feet is the Haflinger Winterbird–the arch support is amazing.

Barking Dog Shoes reviews and recommends the best footwear for people with various foot issues (as well as for women with average feet for whom comfort is a high priority).
Topo Athletic Revive

I am a HUGE fan of Topo Athletic for their generous toe box, great support and snug fit at midfoot and heel, so I’m wondering why I don’t have a pair of these comfortable slippers yet?? Maybe you’ll beat me to the punch once you read all the stellar reviews for fit and feel. Happy Zappos customer Lori states, â€śI highly recommend! PS I have bunions, and a Morton’s neuroma and there is no pressure anywhere as the material is soft!” Find a pair of Topo Revives in sizes 6-11 for $120 from ZapposTopo Athletic and Amazon.

Sanita Skagen

An orthotic-friendly slipper with Danish ancestry, the unisex Sanita Skagen features felted wool uppers and a removable cork/latex footbed with enhanced arch support. A versatile waterproof rubber outsole means you can wear these to the mailbox…or further! Find a pair in sizes 5-12 for $155 from ZapposNordstrom and Amazon.

Strole Snug Tartan

Love these slippers, the color, comfort, and they are warm but let my feet breathe. The arch support is fantastic, just what I was looking for. They are true to size and perfect width for slipper-type comfort. Nicole, Nordstrom customer

Here’s a new-to-me brand that I hope interests you too! Strole footwear is designed to relieve plantar fasciitis pain and other foot issues. The Strole Snug clog/slipper features a Melton wool upper, enhanced arch support and heel cushioning. Find a pair in whole sizes 6-11 for $43-49 from Amazon.

Oofos Oocoozie

My feet are incredibly sensitive and need arch support, cushioning and a soft, broad toe box. These mules check all the boxes. I just bought my second pair! Alison, Oofos customer

It really doesn’t matter which Oofos style you choose, they all make excellent house shoes/slippers. It just happens that the Oocoozie style is fuzzier and more slipperish. If you suffer from plantar fasciitis or have plain old sensitive feet, Oofos are for you. The OOfoam™ technology absorbs shock and provides the type of cushioning that is Goldilocks perfect–not too squishy, not too hard. Arch support is excellent as is toe room. Find the Oofos Oocoozie mule and closed-heel style in sizes 5-12 for $114.95 from Oofos.com and Zappos.

Birkenstock Arizona Soft footbed and Maggie’s Organics Cotton Ragg Socks

This magical combo is my personal favorite “slipper” solution. Get a pair of Birkenstock Arizonas with the soft footbed (extra layer of cushioning) or regular Birkenstock Arizonas if you prefer a more firm support. Then pull on a pair of Maggie’s Organics Cotton Ragg socks for just enough cozy without overheating your feet. This combination works wonders for my aching arthritic feet in the winter. I love the feel of Birkenstock Arizona arch support and metatarsal support, but don’t like the shearling version–this combination works so much better for me and I hope it does for you! Find a pair of Birkenstock Arizonas soft footbed in both B (narrow to medium width) and D (wide width) for $140 from Nordstrom. The Maggie’s Organics cotton ragg socks are available individually for $14-16 or in a set for $30 from Amazon.

Toni Pons Mona

I really love these comfortable slippers. I have arthritis in my feet and feel pain with every step but these really helped me. They’re firm but cushioned enough so my feet hurt less. They offer a bit of bounce possibly because of the rubber sole.

It looks like wool, is soft and cozy like wool, but the felt upper is made from recycled water bottles! The Mona slipper by Spanish brand, Toni Pons, is not only budget-friendly, but also foot AND environment friendly. The thick latex insole is removable and offers moderate support. Available for $69 from Zappos, Amazon, and Nordstrom.

Orthofeet Charlotte

Do you need to wear an orthotic at all times? Slip them into these comfortable slippers by Orthofeet with no problem. The Charlotte slipper/house shoe also features a wide toe box, excellent arch support and a mild rocker sole to take pressure off the forefoot. An adjustable instep closure allows for customized fit. Available in sizes 5-12, medium to extra wide width for $89.95 from Orthofeet.com and Amazon.

Bombas Sunday Slipper

I adore my Bombas socks for their arch-hugging fit and seamless toe, and I’m thrilled to see the company branch out into the comfortable slippers category. If you prefer a slipper without all the hopped-up arch support, the Bombas Sunday slipper is for you. Fluffy sherpa and a memory foam insole will keep your feet snug as a bug! A rubber outsole allows for quick trips outside. Find the Bombas Sunday slipper in whole sizes 5-11 for $75 from Bombas.

Halfinger wool clogs: Couricini (little hearts) style

One you’ve experienced the comfort and support of Haflinger wool clogs, we doubt you’ll ever go back to standard issue slippers. The darling Couricini style shown here features a anatomically contoured cork and latex midsole to keep your arches supported all day long. The wide toe box ensures room for bunions or thick socks (we recommend Maggie’s organic cotton ragg socks). The high quality wool felt uppers and lining are breathable, warm (but not too warm), and antibacterial. Go ahead and wear these Haflingers outside–the slip-resistant outsole is made of water-repellent rubber. This style runs a little large, you may want to size down. Find the Haflinger Couricini in sizes 5-11 for $139 from Zappos and Amazon.

Stegmann Edelweiss

Some people are Haflinger fans, others prefer Stegmann. Both wool clogs offer superior arch and metatarsal support plus a roomy toe box. Read Kirsten’s review for more information on this wonderful European brand.

Taos “My Sweet Wool” Slippers

This review of Taos My Sweet Wool slipper is sponsored by Taos Footwear. The opinions are completely my own based on experience. BarkingDogShoes.com is reader-supported. When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you.

Update 2025: Although the Taos Sweet Wool style is now discontinued, the Woolness style is very similar in fit and feel.

One of the perks of working from home? Every day is slipper day. While I default to Birkenstock Arizonas with socks, it’s nice to switch it up with these sweet Taos slippers; they’re prettier, more polished and almost as supportive as my trusty Birks (which is saying a lot since my feet are messed up). Let me describe them part by part…

The upper: I’m one of those HSPs (highly sensitive persons) that is easily irritated by scratchy materials and let’s face it, sometimes wool is scratchy. There’s a reason these Taos slippers are named “My Sweet Wool.” They’re not quite as soft as a cuddly lamb, but they’re close. Made in Spain with certified sustainable, ethically sourced wool, the Taos Sweet Wool feels good against barefoot feet. I also notice the temperature-regulating properties of the soft wool upper; my feet feel cozy warm on cool mornings, but don’t overheat when it warms up during the day.

Taos “My Sweet Wool”

Toe box: Taos describes the toe box on the Sweet Wool as oblique, meaning the toe box follows the shape of the foot, slightly sloping from big toe to little toe. While my unfortunate second toe is longer than my big toe, my new Taos slippers accommodate it well with no cramping. The width of the toe box is generous allowing for my wide forefoot (due to bunions).

Instep/Vamp: The sweetheart-shaped vamp crosses the mid-foot low enough to give the slippers a secure fit. I don’t find I have to grip my toes to keep the slipper on.

Footbed: Heavenly. The removable footbed is made of thick shock-absorbing polyurethane with just the right amount of arch support (not too aggressive, but definitely noticeable). It’s lined with soft temperature-regulating wool. I suppose it could accommodate an orthotic, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Indoor/Outdoor outsole: The magic of these Taos slippers is the lightweight yet durable outsole made of rubber and cork. I can pad around comfortably on the hardwood floors and run out to grab the mail without damaging my Sweet Wools!

Taos Sweet Wool Slippers

Sizing/Where to buy: I find the Taos Sweet wool to run true to size. I take a euro 41 for my size 10 feet and the fit is spot on. Find the Taos Sweet Wool in euro sizes 36-42 (5-11) for $160 from Taos Footwear. Also available from Zappos and Amazon. Need more slipper ideas? Check out our 9 of our favorite comfortable slippers.

This review of Stegmann clogs is provided by Stegmann USA. The opinions are completely our own based on experience.

Have you heard of Stegmann clogs? If you like Haflinger and Birkenstock, you’ll love Stegmann. In fact, back when my RA was at its worst, Stegmann clogs came to the rescue. I’ll never forget my first pair of black merino wool 108s. They were versatile double-duty shoes that supported and comforted my aching feet at home as well as at work as a junior high teacher. I lost track of the brand over the years but am so happy to rediscover it and share my Stegmann love with you, Barking Dog readers.

Stegmann Original 108 Wool Clogs with signature “S” ribbon detail

As the weather cools off here in Chicagoland, my floors do too. I keep my Stegmann clogs by the back door waiting for me like faithful dogs. I kick off my street shoes, slip on my 108s and sigh with relief. The winning combo of soft, non-irritating uppers and enhanced support (for both longitudinal arch and metatarsal arches) feels heavenly on tired, aching feet at the end of the day. Since Stegmann clogs feature a textured EVA outsole, I’m not obligated to leave them at the door! I can run errands, take the garbage out and walk the dog in supreme comfort.

Stegmann Graz Clog in suede

Let’s talk footbeds for a minute. I’m a sucker for a good anatomical cork and latex footbed–and Stegmann Originals have it. It provides the firm support that my wonky foot joints need.  I have medium to high arches (one is lower due to a talo-navicular fusion after RA did a number on my mid-foot joints). Stegmann’s firm, medium-high arch support is a perfect fit for my feet–keeps my feet and ankles from rolling in (over-pronation).

Stegmann Graz Clogs in suede (with Mr. Cuddles)

What I love most about my Stegmann clogs is the metatarsal pad. I’m used to the metatarsal support that my Birkenstocks offer, but this is more noticeable. Because I have hammertoes that result in metatarsal pain, the added support brings relief. For anyone that suffers from metatarsalgia, sesamoiditis or Morton’s neuroma, I’d recommend Stegmann. Other awesome features: wide toe box (accommodating of bunions), deep heel cup (keeps foot settled in shoe, promotes alignment), 1” heel rise with Âľ inch toe platform (gentle slope aids in reducing ankle and back pain). I even think the Stegmann clogs with the cork and latex sole will work for those with hallux rigidus–not overly flexible at the big toe joint.

Stegmann clogs are hand-felted on wooden shoe lasts.

I just found out that Stegmann footwear is hand-crafted in Austria (wool upper), Germany (footbed) and Missouri (assembly), not outsourced to China like some other comfort shoe brands. Each wool upper is hand-felted on a “shoe last,” which is basically a “wooden foot shape.” Much of this wool is sourced locally in the Tyrolian Alps and is part of Stegmann’s Species Preservation initiative to support small farmers and sustain rare breeds of sheep. Isn’t that fascinating?

Other welcome features? Plenty of room in the toe box (a plus for anyone with bunions or a wider forefoot), and soft leather that conforms to your foot with wear. The metatarsal bar (raised part of the shoe under the forefoot) felt strange at first, but I found after a few minutes I didn’t notice it as much. And after a longer period of wear, I realized I had none of the ball-of-foot discomfort I often experience due to my bunion. I don’t know how a metatarsal bar works, but it definitely does!  The arch support is moderate – not as aggressive as a Birkenstock, but definitely still there.

Stegmann Liesl Skimmer. Available here.

Taos Woolderness Clogs

This is the perfect winter “shoe” for loved ones with problem feet that can’t tolerate floppy slippers. The Taos Woolderness features a faux-fur lining that is oh-so cozy along with a supportive removable footbed.

I’ve worn my pair out and about as shoes with jeans or leggings. I’ve also worn them as supportive slippers around the house. The Taos trademark “Curves and Pods” footbed is heavenly, providing decent arch support and terrific cushioning for the heel and forefoot.

Taos Woolderness Clog

Since the footbed is removable, I imagine you could slip in a custom orthotic. There’s elastic goring in the upper which allows for a more customized fit for higher insteps like mine.

The toe box is roomy and the Italian wool upper is forgiving of bunions and hammertoes. I’ve received numerous compliments as the Woolderness is a unique shoe with beautiful embroidery. This is my first time trying the Taos brand and I’m pleasantly suprised by the comfort level and fit.

A word on sizing: The Taos Woolderness runs a smidge small. I ordered the 10 (whole sizes only) for my 9.5 to sometimes 10 feet and my heel comes to the very end of the shoe. If you plan to wear with custom orthotics or heavy socks, I recommend ordering up a size.

The Woolderness clog is available in charcoal, cranberry, taupe and navy in euro sizes 36-42 (5-12) for $125 from TaosFootwear.com, and Amazon.
