I refer to this fabulous Clarks shoe as a Goldilocks loafer (it’s just right)–check out my review here. Apparently I’m not the only one that thinks the Westlynn Bella is the bees knees–Clarks customers award this sweet loafer 4.7 stars out of 5!

Sorel Out N About Wedge bootie: Clearly I’m not wearing these for an all-day traipse around town with my arthritic 57 year-old feet, but they work well for a casual outing where I want to look a little more put together. The toe box is rounded with a good fit at the ankle and a hidden 1 3/4 wedge heel for manageable lift. And they’re waterproof!

5. Topo Athletic Atmos: I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: I’m sold out for Topo Athletic Shoes. The wide and roomy toe box is heaven for my arthritic toes and accompanying bunions and hammertoes. And the snug fit at the midfoot and heel keeps the shoe secure. The Atmos model is incredibly lightweight yet offers excellent support and a rocker sole to keep the foot rolling forward through the stride taking pressure off the forefoot.

I’ve not had the best of luck with Rothy’s flats due to their lack of arch support. They are the sweetest little flats in the prettiest colors, but my feet crave more–more support, more room for toes, more cushioning. Then along comes the Rothy’s Casual Clog and my hope in the brand is restored.

• The upper is soft and forgiving of bunions and hammertoes. It’s made of a special knit; a combination of merino wool and thread made from plastic water bottles. Cool.
• The footbed is thick, cushioned and offers great arch support and even a little metatarsal support!
• Rothy’s clogs run wide and a tad long. Sometimes I wear mine with a thick sock to take up room. Since they only come in whole sizes, I fear a 9 would be too small.
• The fun tortoise shell patterned rubber outsole is substantial with nice ridging for traction.
• Best for wider feet that need moderate support (arch support is not as enhanced as Birkenstock or Vionic, but not as flat as other Rothy’s styles)

I picture Goldilocks trying on these Clarks loafers and saying, “Ahh, just right.” The lug sole isn’t too chunky, the toe box isn’t too wide and clownish. The arch support is neither too aggressive (Birkenstock) or too flat (dare I say Rothy’s flats?). The cushioning is noticeable but not marshmallowy. Although I did not yet know the term “toe box,” I knew I needed a shoe that didn’t constrict my painful toes. A roomier fit and more supportive feel than your Rothy’s flats–hurray! I actually picked up a pair and video-reviewed them here–the contoured footbed is heavenly on my aching feet.
